Urgent Call to Action

Save Tamiscal — Protect Student Choice, Equity, and Community Integrity

Tamiscal families and supporters were blindsided on November 5th when TUHSD Administration announced a proposal to shut down the Tamiscal campus and force a merger with San Andreas High School—without prior community consultation, data transparency, or Board direction.

This rushed plan is being advanced under the guise of “budget efficiency,” yet the district’s own financial data shows it holds over $22 million in reserves—more than triple the state-required minimum. Measure A’s failure in March 2024 was already offset by the successful passage of Measure B in November 2024, a bond measure meant for facilities improvements, not operating cuts or school closures.

Now, TUHSD leaders are attempting to push this through with alarming speed:

  • Nov. 5 – Surprise parent meeting at Tamiscal, framed as an “information session.”

  • Nov. 18 – Scheduled Board meeting where administration plans to present the co-location proposal.

  • Dec. 9 – Targeted Board vote for final approval before community opposition can organize.

What’s Really at Stake

  • A permanent loss of Tamiscal’s independent study and pathways programs—distinct models protected under California Education Code §§ 51745 and 48430.

  • A reduction in student access and equity—forcing medically fragile, working, or dual-enrolled students into a continuation school environment that doesn’t meet their educational needs.

  • Potential misuse of bond-related communications—voters were never told that Measure B would be tied to closing a school site.

  • Violation of state procedures—no 7-11 Surplus Property Committee, CEQA review, or formal board resolution has been initiated as required by Education Code §§ 17388–17391.

What You Can Do

  1. Email the TUHSD Board of Trustees — demand that any proposal to consolidate or repurpose Tamiscal be paused until a full public process and fiscal audit are completed.

  2. Attend the November 18 Board Meeting — speak during public comment to oppose the rushed closure plan.

  3. Spread the Word — share this message with families across Marin who believe in educational choice and transparency.

  4. Join the Coalition — community organizers, parent advocates, and legal experts are preparing a coordinated response to ensure compliance with state law and protect the future of Tamiscal.

Closing Tamiscal is a policy choice, not a fiscal necessity.
Measure B was meant to build schools, not close them.
